Toy Guns (Pistols, Rifles and Rayguns) in the Toy Memories Archives

Shown below are a variety of gun-related items in the Toy Memories archives.  Included here are hand-made prototypes, original hand-drawn design drawings, a partially finished pattern and more.  Beautiful work created by expert craftsmen, and all part of our toy history.

Toy guns were a staple for many years, and quite a few kids have fond memories of imaginary battles of all kinds, as well as top secret spy missions and western shootouts.  In recent years, toy firearms have fallen into a negative light as a result of increasing violence in society, especially crimes committed using real firearms... now, sadly, current toy guns only exist pretty much as water guns (standard type, super-soaker and beyond), some space and science fiction-type weapons, Nerf-type weapons, and then the extreme of paintball weapons (not really a toy, in my opinion), and perhaps BB guns.  Occasionally you may find some of the more classic type toy guns, but they seem few and far between (with many being made in crazy neon colors).  Almost gone are the days, it seems, of these mostly realistic looking, quality toys of the past...

Dates range as far back as 1932, and continue into the 1970's; nicely covering the golden age of toy guns of all types, including cap guns, flashlight guns, clicker pistols, sparking (and sparkling) guns, dart guns, projectile firing weapons (full-size as well as miniature) and more.  Generic toy firearms are covered as well as classic licensed characters, movies and TV shows, including (but not limited to): Flash Gordon, Tom Corbett, Space Cadet, Lone Ranger, Wanted Dead Or Alive, Dick Tracy, G-Man, James Bond, Man From UNCLE, and more.  Manufacturers include: Marx Toys, Girard Toys, Ideal Toys, Multiple Toymakers (MPC), and others.

Eventually I hope to have this section more organized and updated, perhaps with different subsections pertaining to western, military, space, spy, etc., but for now have a look at some of the art behind the toys...
